Fenerbahçe Beko have announced that they have agreed a 1+1 year contract with Nigerian center Tonye Jekiri, who plays for UNICS Kazan.

Who is Tony Jekiri?

Born on July 23, 1994 in Lagos, Nigeria, Tonye Jekiri spent her college career in Miami, Florida between 2012 and 2016.

Jekiri, who turned professional for the first time in our country with the Bandırma Red jersey in the 2016-17 season, transferred to Belgium in the 2017-18 season. Jekiri, who enjoyed his first season with Telenet BC Ostend, made a significant contribution to the season which his team ended with three trophies. The Nigerian center, who averaged 9.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in the Belgian League, finished that league as the leader in rebounds. Tonye Jekiri became the second-best player in rebounds with an average of 8.5 points and 8.2 rebounds in 13 Fiba Champions League games.


Jekiri’s address, who returned to our country in the 2018-19 season and presented himself this time in the Super League, was Gaziantep Basketball. Tonye Jekiri, who had a season that garnered all the attention with the red and black teams, finished our league with 12.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 31 games and became the second most valuable player in rebound stats.

Jekiri, who got a contract with EuroLeague teams Asvel thanks to his fine performance at Gaziantep, played in the EuroLeague for the first time in the 2019-20 season. The successful center, who played 27 games, averaged 8.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in those games. The experienced player was the second most valuable player in the rebound area in the 2020-21 EuroLeague season.

Transferred to Spanish side Baskonia in the 2020-21 season, Tonye Jekiri played 30 EuroLeague games and scored 6.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

Most recently, Jekiri, who played for Russian team UNICS Kazan in the 2021-22 season, played 24 games until his team’s dismissal decision regarding Russian EuroLeague teams, and scored 7 .6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 12.2 save points. .
